Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Fighters Party

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a wide array of heroes, and a exciting storyline featuring angels, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within the urban setting.

Note: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season follow below.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The latest chapter finished on a major cliffhanger and introduced the initial group of characters who will branch out from the central cast to begin their separate journey, distinct from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table features the determined fighter (portrayed by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that having everyone at one table would be impossible.

This explains, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Prelude, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Seekers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might look unsuited, but the developments of episode 3 show why these five characters are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

First, the group knows exactly where to proceed after a intense first encounter with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose demise started the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, striking the rogue, and stealing all the powerful objects to sell off.

The antagonist then cleared his debts and fled to a fortified location in the northern region, beyond the city, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, wants vengeance.
  • Kattigan knows Timmony and advises that it is a nasty environment.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his house’s orders to execute the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their status as important members in House Halovar could assist the group enter areas they normally couldn’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now go with him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The rogue and The hero are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The healer turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by House Halovar.

This results in them few options but to travel to Timmony in search of the traitor.

What’s Next?

According to the latest episode’s follow-up content, we discover that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the other eight cast members to assemble the Questers and Strategists groups.

Fans can anticipate finding out which adventurers will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
